My mom raised me to appreciate everything I have and never take it for granted. This post is to thank those who have helped us get so far.
As many of you know, we started this business in July of 2009. Two weeks after Mallory and I got married, her sister asked me to shoot her wedding. I refused, I told her to hire a professional. I had no idea what I was doing and was sure I would ruin her wedding. She ended up talking us into it, and our business was born. Thank you Mindy for seeing our potential before we did.
As I was thinking about how we got started and where we are today, I realized that a lot of people made it possible for us to get to where we are today. Without these people we wouldn’t have half the clients we do. And I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize the contributions these people have made to J5 Photography. Sorry if its a little “sappy” I’m kind of a huge baby.
1. Markine Wright - Markine is my aunt, but has been like a second mother to me(I think I have 5 or 6 at this point), my entire life. I have always been close to Markine (Kiney as we call her) and she always been there to support me. She has helped u to get the equipment we needed, when we needed it. She has always be encouraging and willing to share her vast business knowledge. Kiney I wouldn’t be the person I am today without your help and support. Thank you!
2. Chris & Liz Child - Liz called me in October of 2009 almost in tears. Her and Chris were engaged and they couldn’t find a photographer they liked that fit what they were going for. Liz asked if we would shoot her wedding, without seeing any photos we had taken to that point. Liz and Chris were two of the first people who took a chance on us. We love you to and are so lucky to have such good friends. Thank you for believing in us before I did!
3. All of our amazing clients who have given us the chance to, be a part of your special day, spend time with your families, and take amazing photos of your kids. Thank you all for taking a chance with us and giving us the opportunity to get our feet off the ground. Getting to know all of our clients and their families has been the most enjoyable part of this business.
4. Mallory Workman - The most important person who needs to be thanked. Mallory is truly a saint (anyone who knows her, already knows that). And anyone who knows me and how big of a pain I am knows how amazing Mallory is for putting up with me. This business would be nothing without Mallory, she has been the one to always encourage me to keep pushing me. She believed in my abilities before I did. And has always been there to “talk me off the ledge” when I am freaking out before a big shoot. For those clients that don’t know; Mallory goes through every single photo I take (for some of you thats over 2,000 per shoot) she has to determine if its good enough to keep. Trust me, this has to be the worst job ever, no one wants to do and Mallory does it without complaining every time! Mallory has been a pack mule at shoots, tripod, babysitter, medic, thirst quencher, and everything in between. She truly has the worst job in our business, and treats it like its her dream job. Mallory you are truly amazing and I am eternally grateful that you agreed to marry me. Thank you for always wanting to make our business better and our clients happier. I couldn’t do this with your love and support. I love you gorgeous.
5. Our friends and families – Both of our families have been amazing in supporting us with this business. They have all been so encouraging and upbeat at the times I was going to pull my hair out. You all should know who you are and what you have done. Thank you all for everything.
6. Whitney & Thomas Lewis with Whitney Lewis Photography - I found Whitney by accident and “fell” into an internship with her. By far the best thing I ever could have done for this business. Whitney taught me almost everything I know! She took the time and had the patience to answer all of the stupid questions (anyone who knows me, knows the dumb questions are plentiful). I can truly say that we would not be where we are today with the business if it wasn’t for Whitney’s help. Whitney, thank you so much for all of the time and effort you have put in with us. I am truly grateful that I have gotten a chance to know you and call you and Thomas true friends.
Here are some photos Whitney did for Mallory and I.

My favorite picture. This is EXACTLY what I wanted

The only woman I know who willingly plays Halo with her husband

Lucy on the left (dumb as bricks but cute as hell). Daisey on the right (thinks she runs the house)

Isn’t she gorgeous! Man I’m lucky

Mallory’s favorite shot. Big surprise right
Life is good and business is great! Thank you all for letting me rant. And again Thank you to all of our clients, friends, and family without you, we wouldn’t be able to do this. And we wouldn’t have so much fun doing it!
